Noragami episode 7

<Uncertainty and Destiny>

noragami 7-1

It turns out that “Nora” is not a name. Meaning “stray”, it refers to Regalias who serve multiple masters and have many names. They are usually used to do jobs that gods do not want their regular Regalias to do. This can conclude that Nora is the Regalia who Yato used to kill the Regalia in the past. Since she is a stray, she accepts any jobs.

noragami 7-2

noragami 7-3

I thought that this was pretty funny. Once again, Noragami never fails to add a bit of humour into each episode despite how the plot is getting more serious. It’s ironic since Hiyori is asking help from the gods but she’s actually acquainted to Yato, who would not be able to help her anyway. I like the expressions used in this moment, with Hiyori’s petrified look and Yato’s joking face. Noragami sure has many funny faces.

noragami 7-4

I was shocked when Kazuma, one of Bishamon’s Regalias, actually helped Hiyori. I thought that after knowing that Hiyori was acquainted with Yato, he would bring her over to Bishamon. Unexpectedly, Kazuma tells her that although he views Yato as his enemy, he does owe a great deal to Yato. He warns Hiyori about Yukine and explains that Yukine’s misdoings are causing pain for Yato.

noragami 7-5

I have ambiguous feelings about Yukine’s situation. On one hand, I pity he since he has a difficult past and died at such a young age. Surely he does have a reason for his actions. He might be running away from Yato and Hiyori since he was afraid of Yato. Don’t get me wrong. I like Yato, but after trying to put myself in Yukine’s shoes, it makes sense that he is uneasy about Yato’s dark past. Aside from not having a proper place to stay, would you want to serve a god who might kill you like he killed another Regalia in the past? On the other hand, I am a bit disappointed at Yukine. Why did he steal the money at the convenience store? Then again, there might be another side of this situation. Perhaps Yukine did not steal the money for his own selfish reasons. Stealing is wrong of course, but is it too early to hate Yukine at this moment? Maybe he did that to help Yato.

noragami 7-6

My favourite scene was when Yato defeating a Phantom. How Yato defeated the gigantic moth Phantom was pretty impressive. So that’s why he collected some purification water at the shrine. To be honest, I thought Yato might actually choose to use Nora instead. That would be interesting since Nora is really strong and I am curious about how Yato would be using her as his Regalia. However, that cause something frightening. Nora is dangerous, so by using Nora as his Regalia, Yato would be influenced by her and thus become deadly.

noragami 7-7

One of Nora’s companions has arrived. Who is he? Another “stray”? With the addition of this new character, more of Yato’s bloodstained past should be revealed. Unfortunately, I would have to wait for the next episode of Noragami.

Noragami episode 6

<Scary Person>

Sorry for the delay for this review guys. I actually watched this episode on Monday but I only managed to review it today. School has started to end really late. Anyway, on to the review, I’ll try to focus more on writing about my thoughts and opinions.

noragami 6-1

Episode 6 starts off with Yukine being confused about his emotions. Since Yato forced him to attack the Phantom in the previous episode despite Yukine being against it, the young Regalia has been fidgety.

noragami 6-2

I must admit, I was really shocked when Yukine stole the skateboard. I thought that after Hiyori scolded him the previous time, he would not attempt it again. I read many comments about hating Yukine since he is being pretty useless in this episode. Some even suggest that Yato should just choose Nora over Yukine because Nora is much stronger. I agree that Nora is stronger than Yukine. What she did to Bishamon’s Regalia was incredible. Still, give Yukine a chance guys. He definitely has a difficult past that we have yet to discover.

noragami 6-3

The mysterious goddess appears, with her cool lion Regalia too! Named Bishamon, she is here for revenge. Putting the pieces together on how Bishamon loathes Yato and wants to prevent him from hurting Regalias agin, the Regalia that Yato killed in the past should be Bishamon’s favourite Regalia.

noragami 6-4

I like how Kofuku is so direct about everything. Does Hiyori like Yato? I do this the two of them but I hope that Noragami decides to add romance later into the anime. If it is added too soon, it might ruin the pace. In my opinion, the sudden romance was what ruined my enthusiasm for Sword Art Online, so I hope Noragami doesn’t do the same thing.

noragami 6-5

Have I mentioned how creepy Nora is? Well, I just did. The only sign of her arrival is a ripple in the water before she pops out of nowhere. Will more details about Yato’s past be revealed in the next episode? I am really curious about how he met Nora. Besides, why are there so many markings on Nora’s body? What do they mean? On a side note, I was shocked to discover that she was voiced by Rie Kugimiya, who is one of the seiyuus I’m familiar with. Sadly, this won’t be a character I like.

On to the preview, there’s more to Nora and Yato’s meeting, but most of it seem to be more light-hearted. With the next episode airing in just a few days, I’m looking forward to it like I always do!

Log Horizon episode 19

<Chasing After Them>

Finally, I get to see the action I’ve been missing during the recent episodes. Finally, it’s not just talk and planning. Finally, it’s a major battle. It’s the start of the battle of the adventurers against the goblins.

log 19-1

While Crusty leads the adventurers into the battle against the goblins, Shiroe explains the strategy for the battle. Since the goblins might flee in all directions when attacked, the adventurers have to surround them so that the goblins do not attack the nearby villages, leading them to a single point. However, they must also protect Choushi to prevent their encirclement from being broken. I really like how the plan is explained using the “map”.

log 19-2

Over to Choushi, thousands of enemies are approaching. Although Marielle initially did not want to let the younger adventurers to do anything reckless, she agrees to their request of attacking the sahuagin, which turn out to be the fish monsters that appeared a few episodes ago.

log 19-3

The young adventurers are doing well, with signs of improvement from the main group. Tohya has become stronger, Serara has learned offensive attacks, Rudy and Isuzu back each other up very well and as for Minori…

log 19-4

log 19-5

Minori’s group rushes in to attack the goblins, but things do not go smoothly once the rain starts. With the reinforcements coming in only after an hour, the young adventurers are not able to handle the newly arrived dire wolves as well as the goblins. Tohya’s MP is decreasing at a rapid rate, while Serara’s healing is not fast enough. This proceeds with a moment of Minori panicking until Rudy suddenly runs towards the dire wolves, assuring the rest of the group that he can handle them. Rudy defeats the wolves, but he is not breathing when the rest of the group find him later. Serara and Minori attempt to revive him with their spells but they could not work. That is when Isuzu reveals Rudy’s secret.

log 19-6

I knew it, I knew it, I knew it! Rudy really is one of the People of the Land! *does a victory dance to congratulate self for guessing it right before slapping self to return to the atmosphere of the moment* There is a flashback to back when Isuzu was unable to add Rudy to her friend list. Rudy admitted that he was one of the People of the Land, but asked Isuzu to keep it secret from the others.

log 19-7

It is really sad to know that Rudy cannot be revived since he is not an adventurer. I feel really bad for Isuzu, who has become great friends with Rudy recently. With him dead, the golden retriever is gone and she can’t work with him during battles anymore. However, Minori tells her party that there is still hope which lies in Shiroe. I really want to know the reason why Rudy wanted to be an adventurer so desperately. There must be a reason why he decided to throw away his life as one of the People of the Land and live as an adventurer. What was his past like? Also, judging by the preview, it seems like Shiroe is able to revive Rudy. How does he do that? The next episode seems to be very interesting.

One thing I would like to mention is that Log Horizon would be so much better if the animation was of better quality. It has been on my mind these few weeks since the other anime I’ve been watching and reviewing all have better animation than Log Horizon. I enjoyed the fighting scenes in this episode, but it seemed to lack something. To me, it lies in clearer animation and the use of brighter colours. Most of the time, Log Horizon appears to be very dull. I know that the battle is happening at night, but that should make the attacks more obvious and eye-catching. Compared to other fighting scenes I have watched in other anime, Log Horizon does not really catch my attention that much. That is the downside of Log Horizon in my opinion.

Eleven Answers for Eleven Questions

I received a request from cyanime asking me to answer the questions I gave to those I nominated for the Liebster Award. Hence, here are my answers!

1. What was the first anime you’ve watched?

pokemon

The first anime I’ve watched was probably Pokemon. I watched it when I was seven so I didn’t know it was anime at that time. I used to think of them as cartoons since I watched them on television. If it wasn’t Pokemon, it would be Digimon. It was so long ago that I’ve forgotten which one I watched first. The first anime I watched in Japanese was K-ON!

2. If you’re stranded on an island, what are three things you want with you?

This is kind of hard. I was curious about what the nominees will answer for this question but I don’t really know how to answer it myself. Hmm, a phone would be useless since there shouldn’t be any signal on an isolated island. Thus, the first thing I want is proper shelter so I can get a place to sleep. Second, I want a book. At least I won’t be bored. Third, I want a knife. It’ll be useful.

3. How did you choose your blog title?

I didn’t want this blog to be limited to just anime, so I decided that since I was already a self-proclaimed otaku, I would use “otaku” in my blog name. As for “daydreams”, I felt that it suits my personality as someone who would love to visit the anime world in daydreams to escape from reality.

4. Do you prefer shounen or shoujo anime?

Despite being a girl, I prefer shounen anime. I feel that shoujo anime are mostly about romance, so it gets repetitive after a while. Shounen anime have more action which I enjoy. They get me hyped up easily.

5. What’s the worst decision you ever made?

It’ll have to be watching too much anime instead of studying. Some anime are just too addictive.

6. What’s your favourite anime opening song?

My favourite anime opening song is Guren no Yumiya (Shingeki no Kyojin OP 1) by Linked Horizon. The song is powerful and matches the pace of Shingeki no Kyojin, and the lyrics are a perfect match for the anime.

7. Is anime or manga better?

I started off an a fan of manga but once I watched anime, I found out that anime is much better, especially for shounen anime. In anime, we can see the action more clearly and there are background music that complements the mood.

8. What’s the worst anime you’ve watched?

The worst anime I’ve watched has to be Amnesia. I was curious about it since the plot seemed quite interesting. However, it turned out horrible. If Brothers Conflict was stupid, Amnesia was even worse. The characters have weird eyes and the main character practically has no personality at all. She seems to be emotionless and expressionless all the time.

9. Why did you decide to create a blog?

Before I created Otaku Daydreams, I used to post my thoughts on Twitter. However, only a few of my friends watch anime, so they might be annoyed whenever I tweet so much about anime. Hence, I decided to create a blog where I could share my thoughts with other anime fans who would want to read my reviews.

10. What’s your favourite food?

Japanese food, especially sushi and udon!

11. What’s your favourite genre for anime?

If you’ve been reading my reviews, you’ll probably notice a trend. I’m interested in a variety of genres, but what ends up as one of my favourites will always be an anime with good comedy. That’s the reason why most of the anime I watch are comedies.

To end off, I’m currently watching Kuroko no Basket (season 1 since I just started) so here’s a funny moment with Kuroko and “Otou-san”!

Liebster Award!

Image

I’m honoured to announce that I’ve been nominated for the Liebster Award! It’s my first ever award nomination and I was really surprised when I was notified about it. Thank you, Sree! I wasn’t able to blog about this right away because I was busy visiting my relatives’ houses for Chinese New Year, as well as catching up with the anime reviews I’ve delayed.

To accept the award, I have to fulfill these conditions:

– the bloggers that have been nominated must link back to the person that nominated them
– nominees must answer the eleven questions given to them by the person who nominated them
– those nominated must choose eleven of their fave bloggers that have less than 200 followers to answer their own set of questions
– when you are nominated you cannot nominate the person that nominated you
– after nominating your faves you need to drop them a comment telling them that you nominated them

Here are my answers to Sree’s questions:

1. Which was the first novel you ever read?

I’m not very sure, but I think it’s The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke. I read it five years ago and it was a great book with an exciting plot.

2. If you could go back in time and change one single thing you did, what would you choose?

It would be to take Biology instead of Physics for my O Levels. Gahhh that was one horrible mistake I made.

3. If you were stranded on an island with a fictional character, who would you want it to be, and why?

Happy from Fairy Tail? We won’t be stranded anyway since he can fly. Haha. Or if it has to be someone who can’t fly, maybe Rin from Ao no Exorcist. At least he can cook. Those meals he makes look delicious!

4. Do you prefer movies or books?

Books. I prefer imagining what happens in the story instead of just watching it being played out in the movie.

5. If you had to learn a foreign language, which one would you choose?

Japanese! I love anime, so Japanese is the language I’m most interested in right now.

6. What’s your favourite time of the day?

Right after dinner. It’s the time I usually get to use the computer and watch anime. Haha.

7. What annoys you the most?

Loud music. Some people don’t know how to be considerate to others.

8. Pick one – Phone or Laptop?

Phone. Laptops are awesome since they have bigger screens but phones have more functions. Besides, smartphones enable users to use the internet too.

9. What’s the most stupid thing you’ve ever done?

I made an extremely careless mistake in my Maths exam once when I could have gotten full marks. Argh.

10. What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?

I’m not an adventurous person, so this is hard. Perhaps it’ll be kayaking.

11. In your opinion, what’s the best thing about blogging?

Blogging gives me a platform to express my opinions about anime instead of spamming random thoughts on Twitter. I also get to know more people who share the same interests as me.

So here are the eleven nominees I’ve chosen:

  1. http://ninetysblog.wordpress.com/
  2. http://caraniel.wordpress.com/
  3. http://formeinfullbloom.wordpress.com/
  4. http://cyanime.wordpress.com/
  5. http://animationanonymous.wordpress.com/
  6. http://faultyreviews.wordpress.com/
  7. http://tentacleactions.wordpress.com/
  8. http://alixithymianized.wordpress.com/
  9. http://rabujoi.wordpress.com/
  10. http://itadakimasuanime.wordpress.com/
  11. http://blindwolfdarbee.wordpress.com/

For the nominees, here are eleven questions you need to answer:

  1. What was the first anime you’ve watched?
  2. If you’re stranded on an island, what are three things you want with you?
  3. How did you choose your blog title?
  4. Do you prefer shounen or shoujo anime?
  5. What’s the worst decision you ever made?
  6. What’s your favourite anime opening song?
  7. Is anime or manga better?
  8. What’s the worst anime you’ve watched?
  9. Why did you decide to create a blog?
  10. What’s your favourite food?
  11. What’s your favourite genre for anime?

I know most of the questions are anime-related, while the rest are pretty random. Haha. Have fun answering the questions!

Noragami episode 5

<Borderlines>

noragami 5-1

I love Yato’s reactions to Yukine’s thoughts about Hiyori. It’s hilarious, especially since Hiyori is the only one who doesn’t understand what’s going on and insists on taking care of the young Regalia. When Hiyori told Yukine her parents would be returning home late, I could totally picture Yato getting frustrated about Yukine’s dirty thoughts.

noragami 5-2

Yato’s face when he sneaked in behind Hiyori’s parents. I knew he would be coming as well! It’s hilarious how he managed to raid Hiyori’s refridgerator without her parents knowing. I seriously thought Hiyori’s mother spotted him when she looked so shocked, but it turned out that she couldn’t see him. On a more serious note, Yato asks Hiyori about Yukine, then explains that shrines keep them safe from Phantoms, unlike Hiyori’s house. He also tells her that Yukine is afraid of the dark. It reminds us that despite how Yato appears to be, he does care about Yukine.

noragami 5-3

Hiyori’s father switched off the lights in Yukine’s room, so Hiyori offered to let Yukine sleep with her. Ero Yukine! I really like the scene with Yato creeping up on him and scaring the young Regalia.

noragami 5-4

A new character is introduced. It’s a goddess who rides a lion (wow) and uses a gun Regalia. Later in the episode, we learn that she knows Yato.

noragami 5-5

This episode is mostly about Yukine. Yato mentions that Regalias are people, so they still give in to temptations and greed. Since gods and their Regalias share body and mind, Yato is alerted by Yukine’s temptation to shoplift, so he joins the search for Yukine, who has run away. Yukine spots a little girl who doesn’t know that she is already dead. She asks him to accompany her while she waits for her mother. Yukine agrees even though he knows her mother will never come. After waiting together for a long time, Yukine decides to tell the little girl that her mother won’t be coming. Saddened, she walks away and is approached by a big group of Phantoms. Yukine draws a boundary to separate her from them, but it was too late. She was already possessed.

noragami 5-6

I feel really bad for Yukine here. Yato tells him that the only way to help the girl is to kill the Phantom. We can see him struggling to accept the situation. He cares about the little girl, especially since she died so young. Although Yukine doesn’t want to harm the girl, he has no choice but to listen to Yato.

noragami 5-7

Yato attacking Phantoms are my favourite scenes in Noragami. I love the animation effects used whenever Phantoms are defeated.

I’m really curious about the new character. Who is she? Does she know Yato during his dark past? The person who reported to her mentioned Yato having a new Regalia, so she probably knows Yato’s previous Regalias. But which one would they be referring to? I have a feeling they’re referring to Nora instead of Tomone, since the new character looks skeptical after hearing the news.

This episode also makes me more curious about Yukine’s past. Did he often shoplift in the past, thinking that he was just ‘borrowing’ and could return it anytime? It was interesting to learn that even though Master and Regalia share feelings, the feelings are only transferred from Regalia to Master. Linking back to Yato’s dark past, Yato killing a Regalia might have been as a form of ‘divine punishment’. Since Nora used to be Yato’s Regalia, her feelings could be felt by Yato. Maybe her killing intent influenced Yato, causing him to kill. Also, Hiyori comments that Yato and Yukine smell good. At first I thought that it was just kind of odd, or maybe because she likes Yato. However, when the Phantoms mention how the Yukine smells good, it started to get creepy. Why is it that the Phantoms like talking about the smell of people?

Log Horizon episode 18

<Expeditionary Force>

log 18-1

Log Horizon has been so serious in the recent episodes, so the scene with the West Wind Brigade members fawning over Soujirou was pretty hilarious. I like how they were jealous that Soujirou was being surrounded by girls from the land. I found the remark about Princess Lenessia’s dressing a bit like a cosplay odd. It’s not like the rest of the people dress very ‘normally’. Or maybe it’s just because her dress is more fancy in comparison.

log 18-1

“Take a peek and be sent to the cathedral” is a pretty amusing way to threaten people Elder Tale-style.

log 18-3

Back to the focus of the episode, Princess Lenessia has stepped up to address the adventurers from Akihabara. Charmed by the princess, all of the adventurers have agreed to fight for Eastal. The troops are all on their way to attack the goblins.

I like how this episode shows more of Princess Lenessia’s character development. Even when in an unfamiliar land and in uncomfortable clothes, she still manages to give a speech to thousands of adventurers. I admire her courage to do that.

I’m looking forward to the battle against the goblins. Finally, there’s a full scale battle going on. Just like how the adventurers are so keen on this huge event, I’m eager for some action. I might not detest the amount of discussions and talking, but enough is enough. Let’s see some more action! Also, seeing Isuzu’s worried face as Rudy comments about being an adventurer and judging by the preview, perhaps it’s time to reveal Rudy’s secret. I hope Log Horizon doesn’t drag it any further. Come on, throw out something unexpected in the next episode!
